Membership Categories

The National Coalition for Mental Health Recovery (NC) welcomes members and friends to join us as we build our political influence and take our rightful place, fully integrated into the community.

Membership categories are designed to facilitate the development of closer working relationships between groups within a state as well as on a national level; to increase communication, collaboration, advocacy, and knowledge; to strengthen public education efforts; and to develop tangible resources within the National Coalition.

All members should be in agreement with the values in the Coalition’s Mission Statement, Statement of Purpose, Principle of Respect and agree to advocate that the voice of consumer/survivors be central to decision making at all levels.

Membership Categories:

1. Member – There is only one primary consumer-run statewide organization member per state. “Consumer-run” is defined as having a majority consumer/survivor staff and Board of Directors. Members are to be in regular communication with their networks and to ensure that they are inclusive and representative of their state. Annual dues are 0.2% of annual operating budget.
2. Associate Members – Consumer-run, incorporated organizations from a state that already has a NC member statewide organization. Associate members may be local, regional or statewide. The Associate member application will be reviewed by the state’s member statewide organization. Annual dues are 0.2% of annual operating budget.
3. Supporter Member – This category includes:
   1. Individuals (may or may not be affiliated with a group or organization)
   2. Consumer-run groups or organizations that are not incorporated (small support groups to larger organizations). Suggested membership:$25 per year for individuals; $100 per year for groups. If the membership fee is a burden, pay what you can afford.

Friends of the Coalition – This is not a membership category. Friends are comprised of public agencies or corporations that are not consumer-run, or they are consumer-run corporations who primarily represent non-consumers, that wish to formally express support for the mission and goals of the National Coalition. Annual dues are .1% of annual operating budget up to a maximum of $3,000 a year.
